ULSIT Exchanges Expertise with Austrian Specialists within the Project “Interdisciplinary Methods and Tools for the Study of Manuscript Monuments”
A team of Bulgarian researchers from the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies (ULSIT) and the “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” National Library held a working meeting in Vienna with Austrian specialists from the Centre for Image and Material Analysis in Cultural Heritage (CIMA), led by Manfred Schreiner and Simon Brenner. The three-day meeting, held on 5–8 December 2022 at the laboratory of TU Wien, focused on palimpsests kept at the National Library—manuscripts whose original text was completely or partially erased. Manuscripts rewritten on the erased surface of older parchment texts require a specific analytical approach and methodology.

Three parchment manuscripts rewritten over erased older texts were presented to specialists from the Vienna-based Centre for Image and Material Analysis in Cultural Heritage (CIMA) during an applied research seminar within the project “Interdisciplinary Methods for the Study of Manuscript Monuments”. The manuscripts are held in the collections of the “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” National Library, a project partner.
